5 stars Ethereal. Mesmerizing. Elegant. These are just a few words to describe "Timewind" in all of its ghostly beauty. Like his contemporaries (I.E. Ash Ra Tempel), Schulze chose to showcase two almost 30 minute tracks, melding together to form one giant soundscape. "Bayreuth Returns" is a sequencer heavy piece, laying down sonic sounds channeled through the distinguishable ARP Odyssey. As radiant as it is soothing. "Wahnfried 1883", the more calm track of the two, ditches the sequencers and relies heavily on synthesizers and the Odyssey to create a windy, mystical and all the while relaxing soundscape. As most people who are familiar with Klaus Schulze and progressive music tend to lean more towards "Mirage", "Timewind" is a fantastic entry level album into the somewhat unforgiving and/or unknown realms of electronic and ambient music and, in my opinion, his greatest work and most essential piece of music.

5 out of 5. An essential electronic progressive album.
