5 stars This album was the last pure thrash metal album by Metallica (unless you count DM), and their most progressive album. This album shows off some of their most impressive musicianship, with all audible instruments performing exceptionally (I say audible because the bass is almost nonexistent, possibly due to Jason Newstead being a new member and not as accepted). Like all of Metallica's previous albums the first song, Blackened, is fast and heavy. And it doesn't stop there. This album is almost nonstop in its fast tempos and heavily distorted guitars. James Hetfield's voice fits perfectly with the heaviness of the rest of the band. Kirk Hammett's solos are insane, with best being One and Dyer's Eve. Lars Ulrich's drumming is at its finest with the best performances being, again, One and Dyers Eve (with its nonstop double bass during the chorus).

Key tracks are: Blackened - Similar to Fight Fire With Fire and Battery. Great guitar solo. ...And Justice For All - Great song about corruption in the justice system. Long but entertaining. Eye of the Beholder - Unpopular song that I like personally. Almost a groove metal-like style. One - Made famous by Guitar Hero III, this is the best song on the album, telling a story based off the movie Johnny Got His Gun (a good movie, I might add), about a soldier who gets his arms legs, and face blown off by artillery. One of Kirk's best solos. Shortest Straw/Harvester of Sorrow - Kind of repetitive and similar, but nevertheless OK songs. Dyers Eve - This song is amazing. I can't think of any other word to describe it. It combines the fastness and heaviness of songs like Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets and condenses it into five minutes. The drumming on this is amazing, along with the way James' voice fits in withe lyrics. The solo is also exceptional.
