5 stars This album brings a few things to mind after listening to it over and over with the bonus disc. It is the patented Steven Wilson sound and style of song writing. I feel a heavy Nine Inch Nails influence on the general feel of the album, if NiN was prog alot of songs would sound just like this. Also the way he uses Noise or Guitar Riffs which NiN fans would find masterful and radio users would cover their ears. He is with every album becoming a better producer and mixer, wall of sound fresh brilliant sound pours out of this album just like on Fear of a Blank Planet and Blackfield 2. Mostly a Fear of a Blank Planet style production but so much more Digital, Industrial felt, and a slight hint of Shoegaze (picture my bloody valentine meets porcupine tree).

The choruses are often absolute legit top 10 contenders Harmony Korine should be a top 10 song in every country. The album as a whole is a dark depressing journey this is to be expected from Wilson as of late as rumors of heroin addiction have popped up as his main feel of hopelessness in music, something that artists like Trent Reznor (another masterful producer) from NiN also being a heroin addict (except on With Teeth) you can hear an entire different dark style that is perfectly dark, depressing and hopeless. you get the same feel here.

I hate to keep comparing the two bands especially for all the NiN haters, but for NiN fans that also love Porcupine Tree this is the perfect album. Nine Inch Nails being my favorite band along with Porcupine Tree this easily hits 5/5 for me.

It's brilliant. The bonus CD has some songs that if he worked on a few more tracks it would have been a flawless double disc as no bonus track loses the quality and amazingness of the first regular CD.

Steven Wilson is one of my production heroes along with Kevin Moore, and Trent Reznor. All three reach for perfection in their mixes and all three have worked on albums basically entirely themselves to get the exact vibe their dark troubled minds wanted.

Brilliant.
