3 stars This album and RTL stand at the top as two of the greatest metal albums ever. Although this is more progressive than RTL, I prefer RTL. This the last to feature amazing bassist Cliff Burton. This album features one of his best performances, the instrumental Orion. I recommend all songs except The Thing That Should Not Be, a very boring and repetitive song, Leper Messiah, just not a good song, and Damage Inc., which I don't like because it doesn't follow the epicness of Orion well at all.

Key tracks: Battery - Similar to Fight Fire With Fire (except much better). Good metal song. Master of Puppets - Best song on the album and one, if not the, best metal song of all time. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Great song, telling the story of patients at an insane asylum rising up against their caretakers. Disposable Heroes - Not a REALLY good song (3.5 maybe) but still better than The Thing That Should Not Be and Leper Messiah. Orion - My personal favorite song on the album. Cliff's solos are amazing and this is perfect sort of farewell from him. It really sucks that this album doesn't end with this song. RIP Cliff Lee Burton.
