3 stars This is some of Rundgrens' most out there and mixed style music. The album starts out with an Awesome starter REAL MAN. It almost brings him back to the earlier days where pop was his main thing. The rest of the side flows pretty good with mostly synth oriented songs and some that are almost Heavy Metal (DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL) . He even pulls a George Harrison and dips into Indian like music with EASTERN INTRIGUE, not a bad song. But the problem I have with this record is the second side. Its a side long song called A TREATISE OF A COSMIC FIRE. It is very Prog-like, but it goes know where. Its freakin' 36 minutes long and you feel like he's accomplished nothing the whole time. It starts at point A and ends at point A. Some of the sequences are cool, but he sure could of made it more exciting. I just dont think his heart was in on this one. I would recommend this record for those who like prog- Rundgren, or if your just a big fan. Good first side, NOT so good second side.
