2 stars Sometimes I don't understand what do collaborators like in an album. Actually, Death Magnetic is one of these ones.

I'm not familiar with Metallica's other works, in fact, I only know the Unforgivens and S&M.

When I first listened to DM, after three songs I was wondering why they put the same song three times in succession...and I realised it was three different songs. Only the fourth (The Day That Never Comes) brought a bit of lightness (you now, an album cannot consist only heavy songs, it'll became boring), this is one of the highlights. The others are The Unforgiven III (though part I and II are better) and Suicide & Redemption, a quite great instrumental. These 3 songs save the album from being a one-star release.

The rest is just riffing and beating.

The drum sound is horrible (and honestly, why is Ulrich praised being a great drummer???), Hetfield's voice become unexciting after twenty minutes (he sings in one style on the entire album, no switching like in Unforgiven II)...so...2 stars...please use one and five star ratings very sparingly...
