4 stars Excellent album, but it falls short of a masterpiece for the following reasons. I started out not liking it at all, and it has grown on me a lot. I can now appreciate how good it is - excellent songwriting, brilliant vocal work, superb integration of themes into side-long symphonic suites, fluid guitar work and organ, memorable melodies... so what could be missing? It's that sharp edge, the instrumental workouts, the lush arrangements, the solos that one comes to expect from a "progressive" album. So, having said all that, progressive or not, it's still a very beautiful album and a true work of art, even if it does feel a bit too comfy and cozy and lacks that progressive edge. Nektar's "Recycled" and "A Tab In The Ocean" are more of a satisfying listen for me, even though I am probably comparing apples to oranges.
