David Bowie has played an impressive amount of styles in his musical career. Young Americans was the soul project of Bowie. He wanted to play soul music and hired a black female background choir to fulfill his wish. Entitled Young "Americans" this became his biggest commercial succes as Americans are proud people who do like some American interest. I do posses most of the 60's and 70's records of David Bowie and I must admit this one is one of my favourites. While I'm not in soul-music as a genre I became a fan of Bowie and rapidly got all his records in a second hand state. It's hard to explain why I do like this record so much. I think most of songs are realy catchy and Bowie shines on the vocals. The song "fame" I did not like till I heard it in the context of this record. Here it sounds great. This is not a progressive record and is not realy related to prog as well. Still, this record is also musically interesting because of the wind-sections, funky guitarrhythms and effective songwriting. Nice roomchamber music!
