THE DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND: ACCELERATED EVOLUTION

Finally, I've found what I'm looking for. ACCELERATED EVOLUTION is totally blew me away! This is what I call modern day metal. This is 21st century METAL with the various range from heavy metal, melodic metal, progressive metal, a little bit of psychedelic ambience and speed metal. No fantasy story, no middle age knights heroism, no dragons' blazing (sorry, Rhapsody-Kamelot-Blind Guardian lovers...).

FYI, I first heard about Devin Townsend is in Steve Vai's Sex and Religion album. His voice is amazing. Last time I was impressed with his contributions in the Ayreon's Human Equation.

Back to Accelerated Evolution- the sound in this album is so fresh! The compositions are brilliant! Devin Townsend is definitely a genius! This album is opened with the track "Depth Charge", a heavy track in fast tempo and double bass drumming. So powerful. A great track to open your mind. "Strorm" is a slower track, with a psychedelic atmosphere. "Random Analysis" brings back the spirit and power of madness. Yup, a modern speed metal is here. It's so full of energy. Next is "Deadhead", once again, a beautiful slow track which is so soulful. Devin's singing is great. "Suicide" is a heavy track, the heaviest in the album, full of anger. "Traveller" is the light track but still it has the style of Devin, fun but full of energy. "Away" is an instrumental with the guitar sound similar to Steve Vai's. A great one! "Sunday Afternoon" is less interesting, another light track. The track "Slow Me Down" closes the album. One of the great tracks.

This album is absolutely Devin Townsend's the best recording so far. Fans of heavy metal, melodic metal and also progressive metal will find the excitement listening to this album. ACCELERATED EVOLUTION rocks! Highly recommended!
