1 stars This two-sided 12 inch single came out in the mid-80s . in a lot of ways this review could end right here, but what the heck, let's continue. Poor David Gilmour, during the roaring 80s all his old buddies had signed off their creative souls and were making big bucks in bands like Asia, Whitesnake, Genesis (without Hackett and Gabriel) and Yes (without most of Yes). I guess David thought he was due, so he put out this plodding attempt at commercial success.

This music is pretty much the exact opposite of progressive rock; boring cliche song structures, predictable pounding rock beat and a slick over-produced sound add up to one big loud snooze-fest. Side two's Blue Light also contains some horribly misplaced funky horn lines. I thought Genesis had already proven that few things sound worse than a syncopated horn line on top of a dull thudding rock beat.

David adds a few gratuitous solo lines here and there, but his guitar has none of his old signature sound. Instead, Gilmour's guitar, on these two songs has the standard overly compressed hair-metal sound that was all the rage in the 80s. Unless you need to own everything David Gilmour ever recorded, I would pass on this and get something good like Meddle or Ummagumma.
