THE SERPENT IS RISING

The early Styx albums fell into two categories: Those that worked well, and those that clunked along. Unfortunately, "Serpent" is one that clunks along in a clumsy fashion. Not that there aren't some decent songs on the album; because, there are. But, the album feels as though it's a disjointed effort that's trying to go in a hundred different directions at once. Overall, as an album, it doesn't stand well...though many individual cuts should have gotten some airplay.
