4 stars Woolier and looser than the sound of their enduring breakthrough album, Argus, Wishbone Ash's debut album certainly doesn't offer crystal-clear and finely crafted compositions on the level of those offered on that album. It makes up for it, however, by delivering six tracks of bluesy hard rock with the occasional progressive inclination here and there, especially on the two long tracks on side two where the band allow themselves to spread out and jam a little. If you want more like Argus, then you're looking in the wrong place (and I'm not sure they ever quite recaptured the magic ingredients that went into that album), but if you are not averse to a bit of mildly psych-tinged jamming then this is a fun listen.
