![]() If 'Doomsday Afternoon' was a poster child of a Masterpiece, 'The Great Leap' is a poster child of a four star album. All the songs are excellent, and each to them selves are beautiful. You can put 'The Great Leap' on and not have to worry about skipping any songs; you could leave it in a stario cd changer and have an enjoyable listen each time it comes on. The use of new techneques and old sounds make for a beautiful album. It even starts off the very alaberit story that will incompas three albums. What more could you want from an album? Then why is it this is a perfict 4 star album? Because it stops there. The album is 11 amasing songs in a row, but nothing much more then that. Granted, the songs are some of the most beautiful songs I've heard, there just that. There really isint any point on the album that reaches a complete 'awe' point which I love with progressive music. And, in turms of progression, there's not a heck of alot of it. At least, not to the degree of long songs that change and bild to create the atmosphere of the music. As an album it does progress, but the individual songs have little build ups or changes in them. There also isint any 'stand alone' complex riffs or moments. It really is just simple good music. The album feels as though it's a precurser for 'Doomsday Afternoon', setting the stage. It's a must have if you have 'Doomsday Afternoon' and an excellent album to have. Although there is no grand moment, there is no low moment either. I would recomend this album to anyone who enjoys good music. 4/5
