2 stars This album is something as a lost opportunity for Genesis, adding nothing to this band's illustrious career. When I first heard about a Genesis Anniversary Tour, I thought it would be with Gabriel and Hackett, as many Genesis Fans in ProgArchives. To my (ours?) disappointment, the line-up assembled to the reunion was the last, with Stuermer and Thompson, and although I like Chester's drumming, I never cared that much to Stuermer's guitar & bass playing. But I still had a great hope: a setlist featuring earlier songs. Another disappointment. So, after all these disappointments, let's turn back to Live Over Europe 2007. This album is highly professional, and nothing more than this. It is a collection of tunes assembled from nothing less than eleven concerts (mostly from Manchester - 6 songs), with only six tracks representing the good old days (In the Cage, I Know What I Like, Afterglow, Carpet Crawlers, Los Endos and Ripples), with an excerpt of Firth of Fifth thrown as a bonus. The worst part, in my opinion, is that some live albums features superior versions of earlier songs, and there's nothing here which I can say this. In sum, we have an album full of inferior versions of average songs played by a highly professional, skilled band. If this was a Tribute to Genesis played by a bunch of unknown musicians, it would be a feat. Coming from Genesis, a band which has three superb live albums in its catalogue (Live, Seconds Out and Three Sides Live - not counting, of course, the live material on Archive 1967-75), this is only a letdown. PS: If you are planning to buy Genesis Live 2007, wait for the DVD - these guys always knew how to deliver a stunning show in terms of stage, lighting, and visual effects.
