3 stars I have only recently bought this album, deciding to give the tortured genius's solo work after buying the fairly poor Opel album, and I am glad I did so. This album has some really good stuff to offer, and if you were to know nothing about Syd Barrett it would be hard to guess that he was falling apart mentally in it's production. The albums high points are mainly that of pleasant guitar riffs and dainty hippyish lyrics- the best example of this being the album opner Baby Lemonade and the tracks lengthiest album Gigolo Aunt. The other high point of this album is Barret's surrealism, which is most apparent in the final track An Effervescing Elephant, a two minute childish tune about a tiger who eats an elephant. Brilliant! Obviously this album is very middle of the road and simple, but it's a nice album for any fans of rock music in general. 3 stars.
