A NOD AND A WINK

I began listening to Camel at around 1977. Listening to Raindance, finding it rather. well good, but not very engaging actually. Felt like I was listening to music that could have been made at the very start of the decade, but no, this was 1977. So 26 long years past by before I stumbled across Camel again. And my oh my, how I stumbled. A nod and a wink consists of incredible good melodies, played with an emotion you seldom hear. The band, and Andrew Latimer in particular, has the ability to create great arrangements played with a warm, tender feeling, even when the tune itself has a rather anonymous starting point. There is much of the David Gilmour-sound listening to Latimers guitar-playing, but no, this is no copying, Latimer is quite simple a very very emotional guitar-player and he does it with his own signature. The music is mostly rather mellow, but never dark. Listening to the track Fox Hill should state my point. The album blends you from start to finish with its ability to flow and flow. Creative and highly credible music. But most of all, absolutely beautiful.
