ASIA

Asia was one of the rare bands trying to bring live into prog music in the beginning of the eighties. We probably should thank them for that because what would have happened with prog if they wouldn't have been there. For a long time I wasn't really aware of Asia and what they sounded like. So I bought their first album to find out. For the record: I liked prog as Marillion played it back then or Rush for instance. But I didn't know (and still don't) what to make of this. This sounds like pop music with a little more substance than the average. But prog ? No, not really to my believe. Of course we can analyse each song, what it sounds like etc. but I don't really feel like it. With every song I heard I got more and more disappointed hoping they would bring more prog elements in the songs but it didn't happen.

The only thing I have doubts about is the number of stars. It's somewhere between 2 and 3. The music isn't really awful but it's just not the prog I hoped for. And since this is a progsite I have to round down to 2 (2.5 actually).
