5 stars A truly superlative effort from Iron Maiden. I put "The Book of Souls" as the best and most consistent effort since 2000's "Brave New World" (another phenomenal album). Maiden flexes their prog muscles in many stretches on this record, particularly in "The Red and the Black" which is an instant prog-metal classic and one of my favorite Maiden songs (lofty praise I know). I went into this album with tepid expectations and they were far exceeded. I think this effort from Maiden belongs with other classic Maiden albums like Powerslave, Seventh Son, Brave New World etc etc. I hope that the US tour comes close to Boston...
