1 stars First of all, I apologize to any fans of ELP or fans of this album (if they actually exist.) My father gave me his vinyl collection when I was a thirteen year old music junkie. I was at that time into Jetrhro tull, rush, sonic youth, pink floyd... When I put "love beach" on the turntable for the first time, I was suddenly aware of a hideous odor filling the room. The nasty funk fillling the room was "Love Beach." Now, I've heard BAD albums before, and have come to appreciate many of them. 13 years have passed since I first heard "Love Beach," and though every once a year I'll dig it out to give it a fair, honest try, and put it back while holding my nose. This album completely put me off from attempting other, lesser known prog acts for many years. I blame "Love Beach" for my only recently stumbling onto the much better and glorious acts of progressive rock such as gong, gentle giant, grobschnitt, and the like. I have given other ELP albums a fair try as well, and I do like the self-titled release, along with Tarkus and Trilogy. In short, there are "Good" bad albums (fans of yoko ono or Jandek know what I mean) and then there are BAD bad albums. And love beach is a BAD BAD album!!!!!! If you want good ELP, check out "Tarkus" "trilogy" the self titled debut, or Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends. If you want an album that is guaranteed to clear the room in under five minutes, get love beach.
