5 stars What can I say that hasn't been said before?

Truly this is an album that deserves all five stars given by me. From Jerusalum, to Karn Evil 9 this rollercoaster of an album provides a great insight into Emerson, Lake and Palmer and is easily their greatest incarnation to date. Whilst many say that Still... You Turn Me On and Benny the Bouncer drag the album a bit, I'd have to disagree. Benny the Bouncer is one of the most upbeat songs you're likely to come accross in their career, and provides a humourous story and a new side to Greg Lake's voice. Jerusalum is a good opener, but a bit short. Toccata is a very nice song, especially Carl Palmer's percussion movement. The washes of timpani and tubular bells in the song are very nice and compliment the heavier drumming which accompanies Keith's keyboards. Still... You Turn Me On and Benny the Bouncer are very contrasting. Still... You Turn Me On is a slow acoustic song which shows the gentle side of Greg Lake's voice, while Benny the Bouncer is very fast, and shows Lake's rawer side. But truly Karn Evil 9 is the masterpiece which consumes this album. All three impressions are masterful songs alone, but combined they are tremendous. This is my second favourite song of all time, second only to Supper's Ready by Genesis. While it takes up half an hour from a 45 minute album Karn Evil 9 is very worthwhile to listen to.

Buy this album! I cannot recommend it enough.
