3 stars I believe that I have only listened to The Ladder on headphones, it's a great album for a walk, or a bike ride etc. I don't think I have ever sat down and thoroughly listened to The Ladder as I normally do with other records, it's simply not really suited for that, for me it sort of requires an activity.

Having just taken the head phones off, I have such a great feeling about this album, it's extremely positive and uplifting in character and my immediate rating would be four stars, but giving it a bit more consideration I think three would be more appropriate. What's great about this album is undoubtedly the opener (Homeworld) and the conclusion (New Language (followed by the little tune Nine Voices (but by conclusion I refer primarily to New Language))) . It always make an album seem great if it starts and ends good, and so does The Ladder. The tunes in between really aren't that interesting, The Messenger, Lightning Strikes, are among the better though. Gentle ballads like "It Will Be A Good Day" and "If Only You Knew" really put me off, I suppose you have to be older than I to really enjoy this. "Finally" is just too much, I really don't know how to describe it apart from: (In my opinion) "the worst track on the album"

But all in all, The Ladder sure is a pleasant experience, my advice would be just to listen and enjoy, since all of the music displayed is accessible and very enjoyable.
