4 stars I will comment this SHADOW GALLERY album because it's quite unique album, and I think it deserves more attention and of course a bit higher rating...

This album from SHADOW GALLERY is really progressive, but I'm not talking about how complex this record is, I'm talking about it really brings back the original prog rock feeling to music, and in this case, heavy metal, so, I think this is one of the best and most known progressive metal bands in the scene, this album is really close to neo progressive, it has too many hints to that sound so it's good to notice that and not to avoid it, neo progressive flavour can be seen in the keyboards, voices, guitars, and even in the drums, and of course all the symphonic prog influences are very strong, all of that and the use of flutes gave it a new perspective and consideration into progressive rock music.

I will not give a track by track review, because I think that has to be done by the listener, but I will name some highlights of the album, like the great symphonic and melodic piece "the dance of fools", "darktown" with very cool flutes on it, the melodic heavy metal and the fast double-bass work of "questions at hand, and the 17 minutes track of symphonic and melodic music and very nice vocals of "the queen of the city of ice", a very well composed album.

All of them reminds me so much of prog rock bands like GENESIS, JETHRO TULL, RUSH, KANSAS and even some ELP; with time their prog rock influenced metal would be slowly polishing into a more melodic and sophisticated metal, and yes progressive metal sound.

So I invite the listener to check it out, a very nice effort by SHADOW GALLERY.
