5 stars Considering Leprous still is my absolute favourite band ever since I discovered them 8 years ago, its kindof a shame I am only writing now my first review.. and I am probably still not able to find the right words to describe the sheer resonance ontop of the utter awesomeness, but here we go..

I am beginning with Bilateral, which was the second album I got to know by them (thanks to my dear friend Tom), which is pretty distinct from their previous (as it sets the trend of diversity throughout their discography).

Bilateral easily is one of their 4 masterpiece albums alongside Tall Poppy Syndrome, the Congregation and Malina.

It is one that I come back to very often and regularly cause it still has so many outstanding and catchy songs, that always cast a smile on my face (or rather an enthusiastic grin) :D

Bilateral captures the genius contrast between sacral epicness + the weird and raw emotions almost like no other of their outputs and was in that regard the last true avantgardistic one (TPS being the king of that weirdness, I miss very much btw.). Its 10 tracks all offer a very pleasant and manifold journey through angelic-vocal infused progmetal heaven for the angrier inhabitants of a sanitorium full of the quirkiest ideas and epic to rightout hilarious and catchy choruses.

Only 2 of the 10 songs are skippable in my book (if you feel not really particularly angry) and litterally every other one is distinct and great in at least one way. I mean the sheer number of ideas in this album still baffles me.. Each and every single song is a unique experience and a crazy story in itself. It is the kind of cool and heart-warming ideas, that I still get excited about after years and years of listening.

This album (as well as the previous TPS) hits the perfect balance between challenging sections and catchy meldies.. Its just such a pleasure to listen to! The aforementioned contrast in perfect alternation dancing between joy and pain but overall feeling freakin' strong!

God is this even a review? I like this album very much! 11/5

If you want top notch progmetal in its most authentic, quite massive and quirkiest ways, give Bilateral a listen!!
