SALISBURY

It starts brilliantly with Bird of Prey, a hard rock classic, Mick Box guitar is powerful, and the drumming by Keith Baker is hard and fast.

David Byrons vocal is soaring, rising to a pitch unheard of on any track since Gypsy.

The Park is gentler with Byron mellwing out somewhat as a counterpoint to the rock of Bird of Prey. The Park is an acoustly driven number, gentle and subtle.

Next comes Time To live, i rarely play this track but when i do it chills me out, my fave cut on side one is Lady in Black.

This is Byrons finest vocal in my humble opinion, the lyrics conjure up an image of Celtic Spirituality and ghostly walks in the fog.

When we approach the line " I feared to walk alone again and asked if she would stay" im almost in tears.

Side 2 starts with High Priestess, whcih could be a companion piece to Lady In Black, its more rocker but Byrons vocal , professing his love for the only woman he loves is astounding. The playing is tight and it is a finely crafted work.

Which brings us onto Salisbury, 16 minutes and 02 seconds of absolute brilliance, it starts with orchestra, Byrons vocal comes in at just the right moment, this lyric is not exactly complex but is finely written. The orcesthral interlude on 8 miinutes is wonderous, everyone is playing as if their lives depened on it. Byrons vocal creeps back in and more orchestral brilliance rounds out the track.

All the band members deserve praise on this album but particularly David Byron, hisd vocals are superb all the way thorugh, mick Box is good too, Ken Helmsley on organ/keyboards is the driving force on Salisbury and the bass of Paul Newton and drums of Keith Baker make their mark too.

as asecond album it is an exceptional piece of work 37 minutes of genius by a sadly overloooked band.
