TIME AND A WORD

No opportunity necessary, no experience needed 3 Really bombastic. Heavy, lound distorted organ and orchestra. The melody itself is OK, but the real star here is Chris Squire, who plays breathtaking basslines, right up front. all the other guys play fine too, but the backing vocals are horrible. Then 2 Starts with Kaye on organ and great bass by Squire again. The orchestra is awful on this one, it really does not fit in and the melody is below average. and Kaye´s soloing on organ does not thrill me that much, as it sounds just like Keeith Emerson ´s in one of his average (not better) moments. The trumpet at the end is just loud and awful. Everydays 2 The melody is nice and moody, somewhat jazzy. Here, the orchestra fits in well. I don´t like Ian Andrson´s jazzy vocal stylings on this one. The heavy instrumental passage with the whole band getting "angry" is gorgeous, though. Sweet dreams 4 Great rhytm section (another perfect bassliness from Squire and great drumming from Bruford). The melody is pretty good as well. The prophet 1 After a rather long intro by Kaye (not that great), the orcxhestra comes and soon after the rest of the band joins in. In fact, the openiong sounds more like Emerson Lake and Palmer than Yes. The rhytm section is gorgeous as always. The melody is very much below average , however and the song has no instrumental passages to save the rating. Clear days 1 A weak ballad with Kaye on piano and heavy on the orchestra. The melody is again very weak and the way Anderson sings it does not hlp it that much. Astral trveller 5 Great opening . Again marvelous playing by Bruford ans Squire and this time also from Kaye. Ian Anderson sings great and the melody is great too. And this features possibly Peter Banks´best performannce with the band. Time and a word 1 A not that interesting number, this one. Great rhytm section (as usual) and fine singing from Ian Anderson. The melody is fairly average again and there are no breathtaking instrumental passages and it sounds too pompous. Overal rating: 19:8= 2.3 = 2 STARS
