4 stars This is a great album period. Some people didn't like the synth and more polished futuristic sound of the production, but I think it was a natural progression and it was toned down in the following 7th son where they hit the nail right on the head. Every song on this album is excellent and sure it was maybe a little bit more accessible to the average person with all it's gloss and polish, it is still Iron Maiden and it offers some of Maidens' most complex works such as Alexander the Great and Adrains' Sea of Madness. Bruces' volcal sound insanely awesome on this record and the only thing I would change is the effects on his voice. If it was turned down just a little it would be perfect, but that's a very minor complaint. On 7th Son they get it just right, but my opinion here is he had just a little too much reverb/delay/whatever on his vocals here.

This is one of Maidens best efforts.

Interesting Tidbits about this album...

Bruce has no contributions on this and it's the only album where he doesn't. Bruce had some acoustic material that the others weren't that into.

Adrian wrote both the singles on this album and it's the only time Adrian has song credits without other collaborators.

This was their peak sales in the USA selling 2 million copies of Somewhere In Time.

This album features the most complex detailed painting Derek Riggs has ever done for Maiden. He really went above and beyond in the early days!
