4 stars This is one of the first albums I owned. It is amazing. As I listen to it now to help me review it, it still sounds fresh. A keeper for sure. This album is very ambitious, coming off the failed Lifehouse project. The Who got it right here, without Tommy's filler, and is a more interesting listen then the upcoming Quadrophinia. While it and Quadro duke it out for their musical best, the album marks Roger Daltrey's finest performance in the vocal department.

Baba O'Riley is such an amazing song. I can't describe it well in words, so I won't try. Bargain is just as good by me, another classic. Love Ain't for Keeping is an ok song, a relatively weak one on the album (doesn't say much). My Wife, Entwistle's songwriting contribution, is another great classic. The Song Is Over is a beautiful piece, maybe the most progish (lyrically) song on here. The B side picks up with Getting in Tune another quiet piece. Along with Love Ain't for Keeping, The low point. Going Mobile is nice and breezy, helps pick up the feel. Behind Blue Eyes is back to the soft stuff, but still great. After a relatively soft and innocent sounding B side, Bam! You get hit with the opening synths of Won't Get Fooled Again. This is the best song on the album. Fantastic finish. Great lyrics about revolutions too.

The only reason I rate this a 4 is because were on prog archives. I don't consider it "Essential: a masterpiece of progressive music." I think it really appeals more to a general rock audience. Regardless of that, I would still recommend this to any music listener.
