3 stars Market Square Heroes is a great pop song and relatively simple, not really what is popularly know as 'progressive' but very different from anything around at that time. Three Boats Down.. is also good, more typically early Marillion with Rothery's signature spiralling arpeggios opening the first 'verse', very dark but with a great melodic guitar solo at the end. Grendel isn't Suppers Ready note for note, its about 5 minutes short, but the arrangement is similar and the most obvious plagiarism is the 'let the blood flow' section which is very close to Apocolypse in 9/8, its actually a little more structured than that and is probably in some crazy time signature like 9/8, where as Genesis denied they even knew what time signature they were playing in. Grendel is a good introdution to the cliche's of prog, if you're not already familiar with 70's Genesis you may think this is a great song (like i did when i was a teenager) but once you're in the know its a little embarrasing.
