3 stars The Moody Blues' fourth record "On the threshold of a dream" has some really pleasent features which I enjoyed. First of all the band continued with their extraordinary cover pictures. This one goes in blue and also shows a branch and a rose. The shades are wonderful here and the name of record is intriguing too. What happens in the land between dream and watch. Unfortunately I find this one rather uneven. The participating members were Justin Hayward on guitar and vocals, John Lodge on bass guitar and vocals, Michael Pinder on keyboards and vocals, Ray Thomas on harmonica, flute and vocals and Graeme edge on drums and percussion.

Twelve songs are listed on the album among which at least seven are better than good. The songs come in a natural flow which makes them fit together and if you don't know exactly where a new song starts, perhaps your listening will be better. Me favourite piece here is the only classical influenced "The Voyage" which is varied, powerful and dreamy melodic(worth at least 9/10). Two great bits come consecutive: "Lazy day" and "Are you sitting comfortably"(8/10) are progressive and has a lot of true beauty, especially the latest. "So deep within you" would I also consider a very touching track (8/10). My dear "Dear diary"(7/10) is a neat little song I like as well as the thrilling double piece "Have you heard? 1+2" (7/10).

I was less impressed of the rest which sounded too much like ordinary pop rock. This record isn't as coherent as "Days of Future Passed" which also was more progressive. From this record I want to praise The Moody Blues for their tops: The Voyage, So deep within you, Lazy day and Are You Sitting Comfortably. Listen to especially them!
