5 stars For my first 2007 review, I choose the newest Therion effort. This is a marvelous concept album about mysterious and fascinating themes.

First of all, the album comes in a great packaging: a glittering, embossed yellow cover art, a three-side solid digipack and two discs set for more than 80 minutes of music! Wonderful!

Ok, so the cover is love at first sight, and the music.. well the double disc set will take a little bit time to be fully appreciated: the first disc is more accesible, more direct: folk-styled songs ("Gothic Kabbalah"), marvelous female voices ("Der Mitternachtslöwe", "Trul"), pure symphonic metal music and powerful chorus will delight your ears (and also some powerful guitar solos).

The second disc keep the symphonic touch up, but it takes more attention to follow the music, as it is a little more complex, yet very enjoyable. Powerful guitars (TOF - The Trinity), oriental and mystical influences (The wand of Abaris), a kind of power metal song, with an incredible guitar solo (The faling stone), and to close the album, an epic composition of about 15 minutes (Adulruna Rediviva), a track that alone is worth the price of the album.

The concept is full of citations and literary mentions, the lyrics are inspired by the theories of Johannes Burnus,a scientist of the XVI / XVII century, interested in occultism and magic art.

Another masterpiece from Therion:few bands today can compose such beautiful and fascinating music on this high level, as Therion do.
