4 stars Awesome.

Easily the best thing they have done since Neal Morse left, Spock's Beard's self-titled 9th studio album took me by surprise.

Overall, this is a very feel-good album. Very catchy and melodic. It is not, however, perfect. Far from it, in fact. Songs like "Is This Love", "Sometimes they Stay, Sometimes They Go", "The Slow Crash Landing Man", "Wherever You Stand" and "Hereafter" really bring down this otherwise amazing album. Thankfully, there is enough good stuff here to make up for those stinkers. I would compare this album to Dream Theater's Falling Into Infinity in that you have to skip some tracks to get to the good stuff.

SB is a very rewarding album, but just make sure you don't write it off because of some of the more sub-par tracks. You'd be missing out.
