FIRST UTTERANCE

When I first listened to this album I was utterly terrified. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before; I have to admit I didn't like it all. I think it was some sense of morbid fascination that brought me back to the album time after time. Comus has managed to inject First Utterance with so much raw and unrestrained emotion. The album holds nothing back and refuses to compromise on any level. The only reason I cannot give 5 stars to First Utterance is that fact that it is not for everyone; of all the people that I have shared this album with only a fraction have enjoyed it. I recommend this album to adventurous music lovers who are willing to have any preconceived notions, about folk music, shatter. First Utterance is a masterpiece of unrivaled energy and raw emotion. Not for everyone though. -Graeme
