5 stars Stunning! This is their best album, so hard and so powerful. Speed King starts off LOUD with Blackmore's guitar madness that changes into a calm Hammond organ part. Then comes Gillan with his really high voice and the rock and roll begins. There are also great bluesy solos in the middle of the track. Bloodsucker has cool (maybe funky?) rythm with a lot of great keyboard work. Child in time is an alltime classic, one of the best songs ever written. Meybe the best guitar solo ever and those screams by Gillan. This is simply marvelous. Flight of the rat is fast. Really fast and really enjoyable. Again Blackmore and Lord at their best. I love that riff and that solos. And it's almost 8 minutes long. Pure energy. Into the fire is the only weaker track on the album. It's a simple hard rock song that you'll forget about very quickly. Living wreck is another funky style track with great drumming. Finally at the end we have another huge rocker - Hard lovin' man. It's long, it's loud and it has a lot of cool instrumental parts. I also must mention about the drumming. Ian Paice is one of my favourite drummers of all time and this album clearly shows why. His work is maybe less spectacular than Blackmores' or Lord's but just listen to how he plays. Not giving the rythm but plays awsome things. And I also love this pure, 'dry' sound. Overally it's a masterpiece. It's progressive enough to recieve full 5 stars. The greatest hard rock album ever.
