5 stars Musically it's of no doubt among the most essential things ever written in 20th century. Don't be confused by the definition 'neo prog', it's a nonsense. Absolutely no common ground with Marillion, Arena, Twelfth Night etc. Maybe only IQ's Resistance slightly reminds it in melody making techniques, and the debut album by Cromwell (Burning Banners) has some superficial parallels with it in 'rageous' sound (yes Musea team was right in their release notes). Voices Beyond My Curtain is an example of very individual dark prog with extremely pessimistic, sepulchral moods, utterly dark atmospheres, oppressive musical themes. The performance is quite heavy, not too far from Haken's Aquarius. Brightly expressed conceptuality in the album construction. The female vocalist sings as if she's being strangled. Very powerful melodies and arrangements. Brilliant guitar musicianship by Masanotti. And highest originality, any analogy seems to be pointless, Tale Cue is Tale Cue only, they had their own approach to composing music. Well, in brief, I'm sure that musically this album deserves 4.99 lowest. But unfortunately it's killed by erratic English texts. No idea why the band did not write the lyrics in their native Italian. The music of this album is far ahead of its time, I think it will be fully understood decades later. However I'm afraid even then, the only album by Tale Cue won't be appreciated as a masterpiece, just due to the lyrics with grammatical errors.
