Progressive Biography

It's strange how I have only just come to writing this bio, after a long time on the site.

I was born in 1964, to parents of English & Maltese extraction. For the past twelve years (longer if you are reading this in 2013 or later!), I have lived in the wonderful country of Wales.

I was introduced to prog in 1976 by my cousin, with a copy of Going For The One by Yes, although prior to that I enjoyed the music of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and other "classic" heavy rock bands via the intercedence of a neighbour who "babysat" for me when my parents went out for an evening.

As soon as I heard Turn Of The Century, I fell in love, and have never moved away from the genre since. I was overjoyed when, in the early 1980's, bands such as Marillion, Pallas, Twelfth Night, and Pendragon, amongst others, resurrected the genre, alongside, certainly in Marillion's case, a post punk and commercial sensibility.

Marillion remain to this day my favourite band, and I am a bigger fan of Hogarth era than Fish.

However, it is the sheer breadth, scope, and eclectic mix of progressive music, together with the undeniable fact that it produces works of art that inspires, rather than merely singing about girl meets boy, boy s**gs girl, that continue to hold my interest. To those who say that no music in the last ten years lives up to the "classic era", I can say , as one who has been through both, that you are wrong. Much modern music continues to intelligently, and creatively, swim against the tide and mood set by vandals such as Simon Cowell.

I am extremely happily married, with a beautiful son, who both continue to indulge me in my love of this special genre.

At the time of writing, I am a collaborator on the neo-prog team, a promotion which gave me a great deal of pleasure and pride.
