Progressive Biography
My name is Flávio Miguel de Oliveira Zimmermann. I was born in September 29th, 1974 in the city of Joinville, Santa Catarina State, Brazil but now I live in the city of Florianópolis, 30 miles from Joinville, where I graduated and mastered in philosophy. I began my doctorate in 2006, focusing my research in skepticism and the theory of knowledgement questions.
Since I was 9 or 10 years old, I am a Queen fan, a band that I knew through my old brother. Later, I listened to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Supertramp and other 70s, 80s and metal bands but really I never liked metal and heavy hard rock bands too much. I always preferred the symphonic music and so when I saw, for the first time, a Genesis (Gabriel era) video, I really enjoyed them. The song was The Musical Box.
I was 17 years old and I met a friend (L.F.Klock) who was a prog-head. He loves Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Marillion and ELP, to name a few. He presented me these and other bands and I started to love all these bands as well. My next step was to know the Brazilian progressive (I didn't know it existed!!!): O Terço, Mutantes, Casa das Máquinas, O Sagrado Coração da Terra and Violeta de Outono were my first founds.
Nowadays I like too many bands and too many styles, but I always like more the symphonic genre, especially songs driven by the mellotron.
If I had to name the top 10 of progressive bands today, I would choose:
Genesis
Yes
ELP
King Crimson
Pink Floyd
Mike Oldfield
Renaissance
Supertramp
Marillion

After theses ones, I would choose:
Pendragon
Caravan
The Strawbs
Barclay James Harvest
Uriah Heep
Curved Air
Focus

Greenslade
