Progressive Biography
I was lucky to be raised in a house with lots of music and lots of musicians. For a long time when I was a kid I used to fall asleep to the sound of a hard bop quintett formed by three neighbor brothers, who rehearsed in the basement. Later on, when I got my first guitar, I used to see another neighbor who played doublebass and tuned my guitar and showed me some chords and for house parties we did great jam sessions...those were the days.
The earlist prog records I remember were 'A Nice Pair' and 'Dark Side Of The Moon' by Pink Floyd, that a good friend of mine got as a birthday present, but my real Prog discoveries were:
-a concert of Zappa I saw at the TV in the seventies ( the next day I bought his latest release 'One Size Fits All' )
-a Genesis single I heard at the radio : 'Carpert Crawlers' and 'The Lamb Lies Down Of Broadway' that I got as a christmas present
-a record friends made me listen, which I loved immediately :
Caravan : 'In The Land Of Grey & Pink'
-a concert of Gentle Giant in 1976, making GG my alltime favourite band! ( BTW You can hear me scream and clap hands on the first side of 'Playing the Fool', which was recorded at that show!)
Among my favourite Prog records:
-Caravan : If I could do it all over...
-Genesis: Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
-Gentle Giant: In A Glass House
-John Greaves : Kew Rhone
-Hatfield & The North : Rotters Club
-Henry Cow : Legends
-Loccanda Della Fatte : Forse le lucciole
-Matching Mole : Little Red Record
-Picchio Dall Pozzo:First
-Soft Machine : Two
-Van De Graaf: Godbluff
-Frank Zappa: One Size Fits All
