Progressive Biography

I was born in 1959 in Brussels (Belgium). As far as I can remember, I started listening to music since my youngest age. The first song I remember to have loved was "Hello Goodbye" by The Beatles (1967).

Some events will mark my (musical) life.

The first one took place when I was offered my first pick-up in May 1970. My first singles were from The Beatles, Aphrodite?s Child, Creedence, Wallace Collection? Barry Ryan etc. By the end of the year I had already switched to Led Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple and the Who. The first album I ever purchased was Abraxas from Santana (January 1971).

In February 1971 the second major event was the discovery of the triple album "Woodstock - The Soundtrack". Santana was confirmed and I felt in love with CSN & Y, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker but most of all : Ten Years After and Jimi Hendrix. My first prog album was "Meddle" from the Floyd in December 1971.

1972 was a turnkey in my life. As a thirteen year-old boy, I stayed in bed for more than ten months due to a leg injury and its complications. Three devices will never leave me during this difficult period : the television, the radio and my pick-up.

During the whole year, I had basically nothing else to do than listening to music and looking to major sports events (Olympic Games, Tour de France, Football, Tennis...).

I explored more into Santana, Led Zep, Purple, Slade, Ten Years After, Hendrix, Titanic. Legendary albums as Machine Head, Untitled, Santana III and Slade Alive! will be my daily enchantment.

After recovery, 1973 coincided with my first concerts (Sabbath and Purple both in March) and my real prog discovery (although I knew Floyd already).

These were the times in which I discovered Bowie (tiens, tiens), VDGG, ELP (my first prog concert in May 1974), Tull, ELO, PFM, Kansas, Lou Reed, Roxy etc. In November 1973, I purchased Genesis Live and Yessongs (the same day!)

Later on, I consolidated mainly on Genesis which will be my favorite band for three years. My first live experience with Genesis was in April 1975 (The Lamb Tour). I saw them twice again while they were four (1976 and 1977).

I did embrace the new wave and the punk thunder end of '76 through '78:I endlessly have listened to The Clash, The Damned, The Sex Pistols, The Stranglers and The Ramones but also less famous names like Buzzcocks, The Adverts or Generation X to name a few.

From the new wave scene I was found (and still am) of these bands : Patti Smith , Doctors Of Madness, Magazine, Ultravox!, Talking Heads, Television, Lene Lovitch. Those were funny times, especially in concerts (I have seen most of the bands mentioned here).

After this "hectic" period, I was attracted by The Cure, Simple Minds and U2. Due to personal changes in my life (business and marriage), my music addiction was put into brackets in the mid-eighties for about ten years.

It took me back in '96 (and never left me since then): I was reconstructing my vinyl catalogue (partially) on the CD format and the enchantment came back quite rapidly. The discovery of PA in the earlies 2004 drew me back more into prog since then.

My favorite prog bands are: Genesis, Yes, Tull, Floyd, VDGG. I also have a deep interest for the RPI.
Rock bands (artists): Bowie 'hence my nickname: Led Zep, Purple, Hendrix, , The Who.

My preferred albums (one per band): Selling England (Genesis), Close To The Edge (Yes), Tommy (The Who), Untitled (Led Zep), In Rock (Purple), WYWH (Floyd), Aqualung (Tull), El Dorado (ELO), Scary Monsters (Bowie), Still Life (VDGG), Horses (Patti Smith), IV Rattus Norvegicus (Stranglers), The Clash (The Clash), Santana III (Santana)...

My preferred live albums: Slade Alive, Uriah Heep Live, Genesis Live, YesSongs, Barclay James Harvest Live (74), Live at Woodstock (Hendrix), In Rock (Purple), Rock & Roll Animal/Live (both Lou Reed) and of course Woodstock.

After a VERY long hiatus (7-8 years or so) due to fundamental changes in my life, I am now in the mood to come back on PA for more reviews.

Other interests in life: wine and food, travel, football (soccer), politics, economy, animal life, state of our planet (climate change, water & food access, pollution, plastic drama, recycling, waste of food, garbage treatment etc.).
