Progressive Biography

Birthdate: long long long ago in a far off place - no let's be honest, 17th January 1947

When was I was first introduced to progressive rock: no clear cut point because my late teens and early 20's happened to coincide with mid 60's onwards. Only afterwards did I/we recognise prog had happened

My current prog CD & vinyl collection ranges from Abercrombie to Zzebra, and takes in all sort of music (but minimal amounts of rap and NO boy/girl bands)

My favourite progressive bands/artists: Anekdoten, Bruford, Allan Holdsworth, It Bites, KC, Mahavishnu Orchestra, RTF, Touch, Van Der Graaf Generator, (early) Yes (and lots more)

My favourite progressive albums (which you'll notice a preference for the hard edge rock and the improv of jazz):
Bruford: "Feels Good To Me"
Anekdoten: "Nucleus"
Caravan: "If I Could Do It Again...."
Allan Holdsworth: "Road Games"
Krimson: "In The Court........"
Mahavishnu Orchestra: "Birds Of Fire"
Soft Machine: "Soft Machine/Volume 2" (the twofer) & "Third"
Touch
Van Der Graaf Generator: "The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other"

Other comments:

Presenter of the "Alternative Alternative Show" on Loughborough Campus Radio, which has now been going for over 40 years, specialising in prog, jazz rock and any other good music - especially laying forgotten in the archives.

Broadcasting Thursday nights during university term time 9.00pm to 11pm BST (summer) or GMT (winter) (no programmes between mid June and end of September each year), via the web.

For the last 4 years have I have been providing the Album Zone, with an alternative edition of the "Alternative Alternative Show", on a monthly basis.

I've gotten to write the liner notes of my axe-hero Allan Holdworth's album "16 Men Of Tain" - excellent single malt Scotch too. Also been acknowledged in their CD liner notes, by Minnesota's fine jazz rockers Whoopgnash, and former roadie and guitarist to Beefheart (also discoverer of Jeff Buckley (why haven't you got "Grace"!), Gary Lucas. I was responsible for the UK National Student Jazz Chart for the magazine Jazzwise for about 8 years.

In the meanwhile I am enjoying retirement and keeping healthy.
