I think things started to go downhill with the movie, although it was still good until season 6.

Seasons 1-3; 5 stars
The Movie; 4.5 stars
Season 4; 4 stars
Season 5; 3.5 stars
Season 6; 3 stars
Season 7; 2.5 stars
Season 8; 2 stars

I agree with you there, but the Movie DID have Ween's Ocean Man, which is an unmitigated beauty (and it means some of those fuggers in Spongebob Land actually LISTEN to Ween, which is, like, mind-blowing, man).

Ocean Man was used in a Honda commercial too.  I remember that being a surprise.  I thought that would finally get everyone to like Ween.  And then the great Boognish would be able to oversee and comfort our troubled world.

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle if it is lightly greased.

I'd say season 4, considering the movie was the original creator's farewell project. The downward spiral in quality was caused by a large change of staff after Steven whats-his-name left.

Not to mention Wilco, who appeared on the soundtrack, though they weren't in the movie.

Also speaking of Ween and Spongebob, the band contributed a song to one of the episodes, a little ditty about tying your shoes called "Loop de Loop" or something.  I have a CD with the song on it.
