Not prog but will be of interest to those into heavier rock: I've just come across a British power trio (father, son and son's mate), The Brew. While been active for a number of years they have completely sneaked under my radar until last week. Their publicity hype is way OTT in places - e.g. better guitarist than Hendrix (WOT???). However, having heard tracks from their 2010 and forthcoming albums (respectively 'A Million Dead Stars' & 'The Third Floor'), I must admit I'm hearing some quality rock that has not come my way for a number of years. Nevertheless The Brew will be accused of being derivative, e.g. for 'Hendrix' read 'Hendrix out of Robin Trower' at times, and they do seem to have an ability to take the familiar but do come up with a fresh cocktail of medium heavy rock. In particular, the first three track on 'A Million Dead Stars' work for me.
Any more info and recommendations wrt earlier recordings would be appreciated. TIA. |
