I think he was reffereing to the stereotype that all bands with harsh vocals are "satanic". My Mom thinks so too, and it's extremely aggravating!  She tried banning the music from the house.

yeap that was my point.. thanks

This past  Saturday I bought my first Opeth T. Shirt. Can you believe it? If you were to tell me that in 2009 I was going to wear a fan T.shirt of a Metal band? I would say that you are totally insane.LOL

i considered  bying Opeth t shirt  also, but the salesman realy piced me of telling me my t shirt stucked somewhere in Czech republic, so i still didn't get it Cry. i'am waiting..   and i have also that problem like yourself  my family consider death metal growls as insane , so they are yelling to me all the time , but that music rooted deeply inside me so no matter their screaming to me  i keep listening it and  just  ignore their rage , maybe some day they will understand me , hopefully .. but i doubt that
Well I am not to that level yet of playing it while they are around. I guess I never will.LOL becuase for the past 20 years I had never played real early pink floyd music and  avant garde songs from John Coltrane or Ornette Coleman when my family is around.LOL

Ah the mighty Opeth, my fave band... glad theres a fair bit of appreciation for them on this forum despite the growls (which I personally enjoy) as they thoroughly deserve it in my humble opinion

I can't claim to be a big fan of Opeth, but I do enjoy some of their music. They are in the category of music that kind of "fills out" my musical collection. I tend to listen to some overly similar bands, so when I have the urge for something different, they're one way to go. I can't claim to really "like" the growling yet, but I can tolerate them now, and I think Ackerfeldt has wonderful clean vocals.

My preferred Opeth album is Still Life, and I like their softer album Damnation.
My other favorite songs are Bleak and The Leper Affinity(cool song name too!) off of Blackwater Park.
