If this would help, I can upload their first two albums in mp3 format (which are definitely heavy prog) with ''yousendit''. Just indicate me an e-mail address for doing so.
After having listened to these albums, I am quite sure of the band inclusion. I won't argue PR or HP although I do share Hughes' opinion that they are more than Prog Related. One should really listen to ''Titanic'' and ''Sea Wolf'' (totally heavy prog) before making a judgement.
If the decision if only based on ''Eagle Rock'' it is just wrong.
I am also willing to help with the albums addition (only studio work because they released almost double compilations as original albums).

As I already said to Daniel (whom I hope will respond to me) in a PM, the HP team is willing to reassess the band, since the evaluation was indeed based solely on Eagle Rock. If, after having listened to the two albums mentioned in the above post, we still don't feel they are suited to be added to HP, they will be immediately submitted to the Admins for PR.
Incidentally, this is the first time Titanic have been officially suggested for addition. They were evaluated by the HP team because I had 'found' them during my wanderings on the web, over two years ago. No one here had ever mentioned them before. |

Hi Ivan, I can help with album infos (but probably not before next week-end). It's good that Titanic is added although I think it was wiser to include them in HP.
Cheers,
Daniel.

I tried to explain we of the HP team were willing to evaluate the band again, on the basis of the material you sent me, but no one took any notice, and there you are. I've got the albums anyway (sorry about the delay, but real life got in the way as usual), and we can always get the band moved later on.

I remember Raff, but if you decide to add them, we can move the band.
As you remember we talked about the priority of adding a band if it fits in two sub-genres and then moving if necesary.
Thanks Raff,

No problem at all, Ivan! We'll see how things pan out, and then decide.

Hi Raffaella,
The most important thing is that the band has been added. I hope that the material I sent you (their first two albums - and by far their best) will help the HP team to admit them as such.
And if they don't, I won't commit suicide either; I'll just be .
Cheers.

@Ivan: thanks for the bio and the first review of Eagle Rock. Glad to see that Titanic made it onto this site, very deserved, I find.
Funny thing about Eagle Rock itself: I practically bought that album the day it was released and just enjoyed it through the years as the album itself without any concious classification. I was surprised to see it desccribed as HP and after listening to it again in this new light, I have to admit: "Oh yeah!, so it is, I never noticed."

Yes, thanks to Ivan!
I just wonder about one thing though.. If this band had so many fans, how come no one suggested it before now? When David and I first evaluated them (on the basis of Eagle Rock, which probably was not the best thing), it was because I had found them by chance on a blog. This story, if anything, proves that genre teams do need the input and help from other site members in order to get new bands added to the database. We do our best, but very often a collaborative effort gets the best results. |

@Raff: I don't recollect them ever having had many fans. I remember that even in the early seventies Titanic were something of an insider tip and didn't fit in very well. They had their two main hits Sultana and Macumba (if I remember correctly) that were played on the radio, but the albums were quite different and didn't please the casual radio listener looking for more of the same. Somehow they got trampled by their contemporaries, mainly Deep Purple and Uriah Heep. It was (and is) quite baffling what happened to them and I have no conclusive explanantion for their obscurity. Possibly their origin of Norway worked against them too, this being a country that wasn't associated with Rock music in the slightest at the time.
I still remember a number of DP and UH fanatics who balked at the mention of Titanic for no reason that I could fathom. Edited by npjnpj - June 24 2009 at 06:10 |
