Yes, but the album is neither about the war nor is it making fun of it ... and if it is indeed about the Bush administration (and not about Maynard's mother as some suggest) then it's quite ok to use it IMO. If it IS about his mother and here life is related to that interval (10,000 days) then it's also perfectly valid.

I'm really looking forward to listening to this!

I didn't say it was about it and don't really think it is.I just wanted to point out that the Vietnam War is also called the 10,000 Day War.

And to the topic creator,Maynard might not have been old enough to serve in Nam but he WAS in the Army.

Sure. I was only trying to say that it's ok for them to use that as a title for their album. IMO the only situation where it would annoy me is if a band was using that album title and would perform in a military look and play all fun/shallow commercial songs that have nothing to do with either war or other serious topics.

I agree with you there Mike.Thumbs Up

Well that's a well argued rebuttal which draws on verifiable facts to back up its assertions, and which certainly puts the rest of us in our place.

Done what?

One of the problems with the Vietnam War was people tried to bury their head in the sand and pretend like it didn't happen.

How do you know that if the new album is about Nam that it is anti-war?

And if it is anti-war,it will probably be about how pointless the war was and how the politicians really screwed it up and lost it.

I don't think it will be degrading to Vietnam Vets, most of whom(at least the vets I know, and there are many) are extremely bitter and resentful at the way the government handled the war.

It strikes me as weird and opportunistic that Tool would Title their latest CD 10,000 days (that's how long Vietnam lasted) Its weird because Tool wouldn`t have been old enough to have been their amongst the bloodshed , they wouldn`t have seen their best friends heads blown off or arms ripped out and guts spilling everywhere  .. ohhhh  No !!!! but they will gladly parasite from such a tragic event $$$$ . Now you Fanboys have probably rated this CD before you even heard a note  Wink   but don`t think for one minute its going to stay high in rating because "We" will bring it down to where drivel like this belongs Smile
Outraged &  Disgusted ...   Respect the Vietnam vets don`t parasite and live off their pain , unless you have been there   Angry
 AON,
You are quite enitled to your opinion, but there certain aspects of you initial post which I would comment on:
  • You refer to "you Fanboys" which is clearly intended as a derogatory term aimed at other members of the site. This is a breach of the rules. All the members of the site are entitled to their opinions without being vilified for them.
  • You say "we" will "bring the rating of the album down", yet it appears you have not yet heard it. Any attempt to manipulate the ratings will lead to suspension and possible expulsion.
  • You appear to have jumped to the conclusion that a) the title refers to the Vietnam war, and b) that Tool are in some way exploiting the war. There have been may protest songs over the years, what evidence do you have to justify this attack on Tool?

Where you are correct is in the implication that albums should not be reviewed based on leaks (which may or may not be genuine) or on simply being a fan of the band.

The reaction to your post to date has been measured and decent. The admin team will however be watching this thread for any unnacceptable behaviour (on either side).

You've obviously condemned it without hearing a note.

So it begins...Dead

I'm predicting about a month or so of ignorant posts like this.  I have asked people repeatedly to please listen carefully before reviewing or saying anything about the album, instead of condemning it out of hand or praising it on principle.
