It was actually called "Emerson Lake & Palmer"... ELP is short for the band... not the first album...![](smileys/smiley4.gif)
And I was referring to prog.. but you knew that... but I look at it as "there was ELP...and then there was some others..."... . (I'm nothing if not consistent!)

![Ouch](smileys/smiley18.gif) I
knew that, I bought the album the week it was originally released. I
was baiting you because I couldn't believe a consumate ELP fan had
written that bit of ambiguity (ambiguous to this devious mind anyway) -
when do you get into the UK?

On Nov. 20th... I thought I'd just camp out in the Astoria for a few days... during Progeny and maybe follow Carl up to a show in Wales then Birmingham... but I might just stay in London... thats the great thing about traveling now.. I make no plans, I just go with the flow.... I don't return home till Nov. 27th.

am i the only one who doesn't like Dream Theater much? |
My friend is really into them, and their is no doubt in my mind that all the players in the band are more or less gods of their instruments, but overall I prefer a band like Symphony X to them. DT are good but im not really into them.
I keep hearing great things about Rush so ill check them out for sure, Floyd is obviously a must, and to the guy who asked if i didnt mind the guitars not being the focus, it doesnt matter as long as the music is great. Thanks for all the suggestions.

No one's mentioned Pendragon which I have just discovered after having dismissed them for 20 years. D'oh! Right now I would say they are the best prog band I have ever heard, nay, the best music I have ever heard, period. Which makes it even more annoying that I waited so long in checking them out. Double D'oh! It was the name, you see. I thought with a name like that they had to be a bunch of hippy, folky,Tolkien fanciers, which is the sort of thing I hate. How wrong I was! And it's only taken me 20 years to realise this. Triple D'oh!! Now I have lot of catching up to do...
But it really is a damn silly name.![](smileys/smiley2.gif)

Pendragon is actually derived from King Arthur mythology. I don't know if that helps you out on whether or not their name is silly but I thought I would help you try to stomach the name better. Perhaps it made it worse![](smileys/smiley24.gif)

Wel Pixel-pirate if you like pendragon you should check out shadowland and other derivate bands (some better than the other, but even so). I had the same experience as you.
They are along with marillion, post-gabriel (pre abacab) genesis and probably IQ the founders of neo-prog as I like it.
