This would be silly, I rate it low because despite I'm sure it's not Prog' I also believe it sucks.

I believe The Grand Illusion by STYX and Ok Computer by Radiohead are excellent albums but not Prog, so despite I wished to give a very high rating to both, I had to give 3 stars to act according the guidelines:

Rating :

Essential: a masterpiece of progressive music
Excellent addition to any prog music collection
Good, but non-essential
Collectors/fans only
Poor. Only for completionists

  • 5 stars impossible, because none of them is essential masterpiece of Prog
  • For the same reason 4 stars wouldn't be correct because neither can be an excellent addition for a Prog' collection if according to my opinion none is Prog'

So I rated both albums with 3 stars, because both are good, but not essential for a Prog' collection.

If we were in a general music or simply a rock forum, I would rate both with 4 stars.

Hmmmm, well Close to the Edge would be a bad "Reggae" album, because it's not supposed to be a Reggae album, so why give it a bad mark overall?

Exactly the case, if somebody asks me if Close to the Edge is essential or an excellent addition for a Reggae collection I would also vote with 3 stars, good album but not essential for a Reggae fan.

Why can't people just review it for what it is?? Maybe if this was a different site it would get a better mark. Personally i'd give it ***1/2 or ****. It's pop/ Rock with touches of prog.. I can't imagine any mindless pop band getting the intro to "Changes" or "Leave it" right

Because we have a duty, to guide Prog' newbies with our reviews and ratings. If this people see that we rate The Grand Illusion as an essential addition to a Prog' collection, they would believe this is Prog', and would be misguided.
