 Topic: JJ Abrams vs. Joss Whedon

Both did excellent TV shows, and then moved on to feature films and have made... splashy big budget epics (Star Trek, The Avengers, Mission Impossible, and, for Abrams, the upcoming Star Wars sequels). Personally I wish they'd both go back to television... At any rate, which do you prefer?
J.J. Abrams: Felicity (tv), Alias (tv), Lost (tv), Fringe (tv), Cloverfield (horror film), Super 8 (sci-fi film), Star Trek (film), Star Trek Into Darkness (film), Mission: Impossible III (film)
Joss Whedon: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv series and movie), Angel (tv), Firefly (tv), Serenity (movie), The Cabin in the Woods (horror film), The Avengers (superhero movie)

I like both, but Whedon has been more consistent in his work.

Whedon easily, my biggest criticism of Abrams is that he's rarely able to fully develop his stories with the middles often getting rather bogged down or wishy-washy, though I loved the Alias series.

I loved Lost, although I prefer to pretend that last season never existed. Been watching Fringe lately, and am starting to get into it. What I like about Whedon are the characters he creates, and the humor. I went with Whedon because he did more stuff that I like (his tv shows, and the movie Cabin in the Woods); if Abrams hadn't done Lost, it wouldn't even been close for me.

Equal for me...they both have done some excellent and some mediocre things.
Lost and Fringe are two of my favorite shows and Angel and Firefly are two of my favorites by Whedon.

I was a big fan of Buffy, but never got into the other TV shows by Whedon. I've read some criticism about Whedon's heroines saying he was a so-called feminist who loved to see his heroines in tears, and I thought that some arguments were aiming right.
But if you want to hear/read me saying/writing very dirty, horrible insults, thrown between two buckets of spit, just make me watch Alias, Lost or the two "Star Trek" movies by Abrahams. Good Lord. I felt insulted each time I watched his stuff.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well, although I mildly enjoyed Super 8. Almost forgot: I did catch The Avengers when it ran in cinemas and was absolutely horrified of how bad it was. Sorry to all the fans here, but man......and it was the most expensive movie ever made too! Not that that says anything about quality though. I remember when Waterworld held that record  I think I'd rather watch it actually....

I liked Fringe (a lot) and Super 8 by JJ Abrams
I liked Dr Horrible and Avengers by Joss Whedon
I think Abrams' mismanagement of Star Trek kinda evens them out, so equal.

I didn't like Super 8 (the first half was excellent, but the second half blew it for me), but I really liked Cloverfield.
I must admit I mildly enjoyed The Avengers, even though I generally dislike superhero movies. Having said that, I much prefer the work both Whedon and Abrams did on TV to their films. (Although Cabin in the Woods plays like a really great episode of Buffy.)

Wheaden. Both are good enough producers, but Wheadon is a much, much, much better writer. If it weren't for Fringe, which I love, I wouldn't even put them on the same level.

Perhaps the argument that Whedon loves to see his heroines in tears is misdirected. Jennifer Garner was pretty much in tears through the whole of Alias.
