Topic: "Proggy" songs by non-prog bands Posted: January 21 2012 at 16:54
Do you ever hear a song on the radio by pop or mainstream rock band and think, "That sounds proggy..."?
What are the "proggiest" songs you know by bands that aren't considered prog?
"Foreplay" by Boston (the intro to "Long Time") sounds like it could have been made by a symphonic prog band. And I almost consider "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay to be a crossover prog record (even though none of their other music qualifies).

If I were to make the argument that Tears for Fears had proggy sounding stuff, I wouldn't use anything off the first album...I'd go with their more adventurous stuff on their third album, like Badman's Song:
Who'd guess those synth boys would release such a soulsy, jazzy, Beatles-y record - they really grew their sound by Seeds of Love.
This one is perhaps not proggy but definitely adventurous, while being closer to their original sound:
