We are The Madcap Laughs.

This is our 7 track EP: The Pith Of Eleutheria.

The Madcap Laughs are a 5 piece Prog band from the North-West, Uk. The band have performed at many venues and most recently at the famous Cavern Club. The EP is finally recorded and the group hope to record the 12 track album The Esoteric Tales Of The Luminous Sun in the next year.

Members:

  • Jonathan Mcmahon - Drums
  • Jack Morris - Keyboard, Piano, Organ, Strings
  • Louie Patman-Dunkin - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
  • Ryan Vernon - Bass Guitar

Thanks,
The Madcap Laughs

The band name surely catches the attention. The music is too symphonic for that name so at the first listen I've not been impressed, however the second part is not bad. The trick is forgetting Barrett and concentrate to the music only.
There are psych elements but from the samples I have the impression that your music fits better in the neo-prog subgenre. Finding the right subgenre makes the addition to PA easier.

Which part of the Northwest are you from? I've been around Chester and North Wales for six years... I'm happy to be back to my home country but I've left a little piece of my heart there and the map of your gigs on Facebook has made my eyes blink. Say hello to the M53.Smile

Have you guys released your full length album yet? I ask because to be evaluated on PA, you must have at least one studio album or one EP, and I don't think demos count as EPs (unless it is in fact an EP Wink)

Hello, thanks for taking the time and listening to our tracks...

Ermm we are all from Warrington.
We can't necessarily either put a finger on what kind of genre we are, we don't get too held up on that, we just love music and writing music... I've written a full album called: 'The Esoteric Tales Of The Luminous Sun', however it is quite a struggle to fund the recording and mastering as we are all young lads. Another EP is written and should be finished by Feb 2012. Again, thanks for listening to our records and keep an eye or an ear out for the album, which we hope to have completed sooner, rather than later.

Andy, it is an EP, however I've called it a demo for some obscure reason...
The EP is called: 'The Pith Of Eleutheria' and as seen above, an album will be recorded as soon as possible.

Keep an eye on the facebook profile for any news..

Thank you

I think you guys may be a fine candidate for neo-prog. I'll alert the team.

Cheers Andy, I'm currently putting together a folder to send to  [email protected] with all information and the mp3's I think is needed, because I think that's what I'm supposed to do, haha.
Thanks for your time people!

You don't need to Email Uwe because the genre team has already been notified and sending a second suggestion just makes things incredibly confusing LOL

Quick question: How long will it take before we know if the EP has been evaluated?
Thank you

I have a feeling in a couple of minutes the leader of the neo team will post a link to your band's page on ProgFreak.com, a website the genre teams use to evaluate bands. There you can follow how the members of the team vote on your band, and once you have enough yes votes, your band will be cleared for addition.

Ah, here it is.

There you can follow the team's progress. Smile

Now checking ... "Overshadowed By Shh" is a good song, but only two songs can hardly push us Team.
If you release a full album or recommend some more samples, please notify us here or Private Mail.

As others have said, the genre thing is just to make the things simpler. I agree that making music is what matters. A label is useful when managing a database.

Warrington is a nice town, even if I've been there just a couple of times. Too many speed cameras between the J10 and the town Wink

Best wishes.

Again, thanks for taking the time. We could only afford to record two tracks and we are currently looking at recording an album, however it is a bit pricey, so we can't actually give a date of when we will be able to have an album recorded. You know it is a struggle to get recognition, in this day and age, and we'll just continue doing what we're doing and see what happens. We've got so much more songs, that are much better than the two on 'The Pith Of Eleutheria'. I would really appreciate it if we got into the PA, however I totally understand that there is a lack of songs, but they will be there in the near future... it's just having people there who can hear 'The Pith Of Eleutheria' who will want to hear more, and then we could release 'The Esoteric Tales Of The Luminous Sun'(the album).

Cheers

Haha Octopus, I can't wait to leave this town, I bloody hate it here. Thanks for your feedback before.

Take care

Thanks
