pink floyd - the wall

I love it, but not as much as the other "classic" Floyd albums. It might be closer to my favorite if it was just one album; I think it drags a bit on disc 2. I also don't like the dominance of Roger's style on the album; WYWH & DSOTM were made when Rick Wright was still a key member of the group, and his influence (compositionally) is one of my favorite elements of the Floyd sound.

One of the most depressing pieces of music written or should I say angst filled. If you are inclined that way, (depressive), I would not recommend it. To me it was the start of the faltering of the great PF music machine. There is only so much Roger Water's angst that can be taken.

Technically a great album - musically for me, almost at the bottom of the PF catalogue

As a prog fan, I feel somewhat sinful saying this, but the wall is just... too long! Plus, its so morbid! There really are some fantastic moments on it, and I love the first disc... but by the time you're on the first side of the second disc, its just repetitive and depressing. Its still a masterpiece, and I appreciate it as such, but you really have to be in the right... or maybe wrong... mood to listen to it.

Animals was my first intro to Floyd and is still my favorite Floyd album.

I still think it's a masterpiece, but that song is SOOOO overrated and overplayed...

Remember getting this one Christmas & listening to it on headphones. Absolutely loved it from beginning to end. Although I was bemused as to the (then) 'un-Floydness' of some of the tracks, the variety of musical styles coupled with the great production made for a great sounding album. I feel the emergence of The Final Cut had a negative effect on memories of The Wall - I don't recall feeling it was a particularly miserable album (a charge I've often heard) just a dark and dramatic piece.

I  have always liked The wall. It's the first prog album I ever heard/bought.

Over the years my enjoyment of it has subsided a little after hearing more/better Floyd material, but also as I become more aware of the politics in the band at the time; Rogers falling out with Rick Wright, the central theme of the album and how Gilmour regards it these days. The reality behind tends to tarnish it for me a little these days. As a result it doesn't get played that often.

a masterpiece indeed, i heard it is the best selling double album. Roger Waters may be an egotistic git but he sure can write!

Their best work for me.

The lyrical meaning is far more transparent and the songs are great.

I've just woken up so that's all I can summon....
